Unlikely Caterers

Spread 'em

Published: Jan 10, 2007

1 Cereality
3631 Walnut St., 215-222-1162, www.cereality.com

Cerealously: This popular U-City spot caters to your every need with custom blends and photo boxes, complete with prizes inside. There's even a Cereality celebrations coordinator to help sweeten your event with packages like Frost Bites, a medley of Frosted Mini-Wheats, Frosted Flakes, malted milk balls and coconut.

2 Pita Pit
1601 Sansom St., 215-564-1080, www.phillypitapit.com

This fresh-and-fast chain assembles custom platters for office luncheons. Build a 30- to 100-count mini-pita tray, with choices like the souvlaki (packed with Greek-marinated chicken) and the Robinson (falafel and hummus).

3 Johnny Brenda's
1201 Frankford Ave., 215-739-9684, www.johnnybrendas.com

Although it's mostly known for its tunes and brew, JB's also caters a mean gig now and again. Since the kickoff of the upstairs venue, chef Pesamino Kelekolio has produced mini-kabobs (lamb, beef and mako) and octopus bruschetta, among other popular platters.

4 Tiffin Store
710 W. Girard Ave., 215-922-1297, www.tiffinstore.com

This Indian joint dishes it up for banquets and dinner parties. Packages range from $8 to $14 a head, and include faves like chicken tikka, barbecue breast cooked in tomato sauce, and the black lentil crowd-pleaser dal. Each order comes with garlic naan, served with cups of mint and tamarind chutney.

5 2Potatoes Vegan Fare

2Potatoes, which earned its following at Flying V and LAVA shows, pampers vegheads with cruelty-free feasts. Standouts include the Mediterranean mezze platter featuring baba ghanoush, hummus and grape leaves; and the Fauxtess cupcake, a vegan version of the sinful lunch-box snack. We swear they're just as addictive.
