We've got the Baird Sisters and the XX chromosomes from Golden Ball, but where will Philly's next generation of girls who rock come from? Probably from Girls Rock Philly, a nonprofit organization putting together Rock Camp for Girls, a weeklong, female-instructed music program for ladies aged 10 to 18. Set to debut next summer, the high-decibel course will cover playing instruments, writing songs, creating a band and perfecting that crucial rock-star jump kick, all in preparation for a performance at the end of the week. Sounds like a stairway to heaven, right? All the Rock Camp needs is some love in the form of funding. Which is where Shake & Shiver, a frosty formal fundraiser, throws down. So get glam for an Xmas-light wonderland. The benefits for you? Making Time mastermind Dave P on the decks, along with Girls DJ Collective, a holiday photo booth, screenings of the Girls Rock! documentary and an experimental movie by Small Change Collective, a raffle and refreshments. The benefits for the female rock scene in Philadelphia? Incalculable.
Girls Rock Philly Shake & Shiver Benefit, Sat., Dec. 2, 8 p.m., $7-$70, The Parlor, 1170 S. Broad St., www.girlsrockphilly.org.
