Feeding Frenzy

Restaurants opening, closing and pending

>> NOW SEATING

The Bayou Bar & Grill
4245 Main St., Manayunk, 215-482-2560

Sanity comes at a premium on Manayunk's Main Street, where untucked oxfords and overpriced Miller Lite bottles tarnish the legacy of the Lenape (cue teary Indian). Hopefully, the award-winning Bayou's recently opened Blue Room will serve as some kind of sanctuary. The addition features a 10-seat bar, high-top tables and three plasma screen TVs. The space will also host live music.

>> WAITING LIST

Tinto
114 S. 20th St.

Amada chef Jose Garces' wine-and-pinchos spot should be ready by January. Tinto's wine list will comprise premium choices from Spain and France; NYC designer Jun Aizaki is creating an interior they say will resemble "a rustic wine cellar." Bite This: The foie gras bocadillos is made with foie gras, duck prosciutto, membrillo and frisee in a walnut mustard vinaigrette.

>> CHECK PLEASE

Tommy Gunns
630 South St.

It's been about a month since Philly BBQ institution Tommy Gunns closed shop on South Street. The reasoning's unclear, but staffers at the original Ridge Avenue location allude to the fact that business was uneven. Currently, there are no plans to reopen in Center City, but the owners have claimed stakes inside PJ Henry's Drafthouse in the Ardmore Outpost.

>> LITTLE VITTLES

Daniel Stern's doing us proud: The Gayle chef's veal stew was recently named one of the top 10 restaurant dishes in the nation by Food & Wine.

April Margera, whose son Bam I often invoke when people ask me what a Philadelphia accent sounds like, has released a cookbook, April Cooks: There's an Alligator in My Kitchen. Recipes include jumbo molasses cookies and "Fake Dog Poop."
