Naked City : Icepack
Before we move further into Icestylee, note: Philly/Jersey ex-Eagle Vince Papale's life-as-movie Invincible hitting No. 1 is awesome. Seeing Vin and Marky Mark W in shiny suits at last week's opening was awesome. The bad part? Greg Kinnear now has two movies in America's top three (see Little Miss Sunshine) films. There's no spinning that level o'dread. But spin it we're gonna, pal. Because there'll be no crying come autumn. Get your tears out now. When Jessica Pressler MySpacesabout having hurt feelings, she should wait to see what people have to say when she starts that Phawker dot.com in September. ("You report. We'll decide," says her ex-Philebrity partnerinsnark Jonathan Valania.) Wanna buy that Dr. Dog handmade, limited-edition CDEP Takers and Leavers at Spaceboy? Spaceboy's closing. Fuck. That's sad. I know. Suck it up. Shop at AKA! Even sadder? Did the punky, clunky Club 218 on South close too? That's a rumor. But still. It's even sadder when paired with Joe Dougherty's Emerald City after-hours, private-membership club closing to become a "non-after-hours private food/restaurant-based concept." Which is the unsexiest-ever phrase for anything involving food services, Joe. That's like saying I'd accept an intercourse-based relationship with my personable significant other. No matter. No tears. Don't let the sun catch you crying. WHOWHATWHERE: Before leaving Philly for NYC and Striped Bass for Gilt, Christopher "Not Willie Wonka's dad" Lee supped at Bar Ferdinand. Lee gracefully (gratefully) bequeathed his James Beard Award-winning menu to the Bass. So who cares if he's outtie? Former Phillie John Kruk was spied eating with family (or did that read "eating a family"?) at Broad and Chestnut's Marathon Grill. Danity Kane da girls of Making the Band 3 were all over FYE in Montgomery Mall. Until they realized they were in Montgomery and a mall. Sneaking into North Bowl when its doors were barely oiled open? ?uestlove with his own ball 'n' glove. Know who snuck into Philly by sailboat 'n' docked at $2 per foot? The Sailboat Tour (there goes my surprise) with freak-folksters Peter and the Wolf who hit Nexus and Green Line Cafe after they dried their feet. Jamheads unite: Disco Biscuits just finished demo-ing 14 tracks in their studio on North Third. "There are a few real gems in the bunch," sayeth Biscuit Marc Brownstein. Look for director Erich Weiss' cameras all over John Legend's North Star show Sept. 5 as he's trying to finish a Legend doc (co-starring Quincy Jones and Stevie Wonder) by the Oct. 24 release of Legend's sophomore joint Once Again. Disney sensations Aly & AJ made a surprise visit to pal MoZella's opening set for ditzy Sierra Swan at World Café Live. Ogling teen fans then left to follow MoZella and A&A to the lobby angering a supposedly intox-i-something'd Swan (she admitted to having a few tequilas from stage) who not only dissed A&A while the teeny-bop duo were in the lobby, but to their faces when they came back to dance to Swan's music from the front row. "You making fun of me," quizzed Swan, a girl whose WCL description has her sipping wine and musing about insane asylums (http://tickets.worldcafelive.com/eventperformances.asp?evt=1462). But who don't muse thusly? Vegas, baby Vegas: That's where the Gentlemen's Club Expo gave Delilah's strip bar its "Gentlemen's Club of the Year" award. Congrats. You won't have delightfully pixie-ish Sony rep Nithya Rajendran to bug for Franz Ferdinand promos. She's at EMI in NYC now. Huzzah. NoLibs' Projects Gallery welcomes home University City-expat Caleb Weintraub to show his Uzi-toting-kid art show "... with the bathwater" Sept. 1. I hate children. But I love 'em with guns. Guns, art, hate: Not only do I hear Dirty Diamond's rude, one-man Neil Diamond karaoke at Khyber Sept. 2 may be his last rock show for a year. The filmmaker/artist/kinda curator is kinda curating an art exhibit at Glam, First Friday Sept. 1, with back-alley photog Ryan Lauko (www.ryanlauko.com) and levitating fork artist Lindsay Grow. Neither Edmund Rek nor Dawn Woodward recently fired hubby/wife employees of the newly opened Restaurant M as reported here will tell me what transpired between them and the M, but they assure me they are credentialed chef types. Period. Remember the ousted-from-South Street Club Kama Sutra the home of swarthy men and the often-pairs of women that boinked them? They found a private-party-weekend home at a gentleman's club south of Allentown where an adjacent set of adjoining hotel rooms allow ugly couplings to go hog wild on themes like "Bi-Ladies Lingerie" and "Sexy Jeans & Raunchy Ts." Ugh. What used to be a South Philly social club at 10th and Carpenter is set to become InFusion an independent coffee and tea place. This is good coffee news what with the four homegrown Passero's Gourmet Coffee locations after 15 years selling to Juan Valdez Coffee. Before summer ends, I'mo kiss my Glamorosi Jewelry-designing wife, Patrice, for our wedding anniversary and yell at newly engaged types Surreal/Heyday booker Joe Lekkas, DJ Cosmo Baker (not to each other!) and Red Bank, N.J., Internet reality show producer Marilyn "Pussy Galore" Thomas, who got engaged to Chris Baud, former Philly Metro editor now at the NY Post, who wrote this story on Mar (http://www.theredmasque.com/metro_interview_7705.pdf). Ladies love a man with ink on his hands.
