Your Guide to an Awesome Three-Day Weekend

Slaskifest
Slaskifest

Labor Day can be so much work. You know how it is—making plans, designating drivers, buying burgers and buns and those little baby pickles. Lucky for picky-choosy you, we've taken the time to dredge the event-rich Labor Day detritus, producing a handful of quality activities you're sure to enjoy.

Slaskifest 9
Sat., Sept. 2, 10 a.m.-10 p.m., $10, Indian Trail Park, Rt. 248 and Indian Trail Rd., Northampton, www.slaskifest.com
You Should Know: In 1998, local everyman Mike Slaski organized a picnic for a few of his high school buddies. The event was a hit, and before Mikey knew it, his boozy cookout was a full-fledged phenomenon drawing nearly 1,000 guests annually. The fun and camaraderie comes at a flat rate, but attendees revel for a good cause—all profits will be donated to multiple sclerosis research.
Itinerary: Performances by the Deadliners, Grieving Eucalyptus and Illinois; horseshoes and kickball; and 10 pounds of baked ziti!
Don't Forget: Your bathing suit. Large-scale, storming-of-Normandy-like water balloon battles are a Slaskifest tradition.

N2N Street Festival and Parade
Sat., Sept. 2, 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m., 50th St. and Baltimore Ave., 215-492-2980, www.n2nfestival.com
You Should Know: This is the 17th year for N2N (Neighborhood to Neighborhood), a West Philly fest featuring vendors, all-ages activities, crafts and a stacked music bill. This year, Philly natives Musiq, Lady Alma and Jaguar Wright will croon alongside gospel acts like Chico Robinson and God's Chosen.
Itinerary: A noontime parade; a no-holds-barred church cook-off; an appearance by 76ers mascot Hip Hop.
Don't Forget: Your lawn chair. Seriously, the Web site says so.

Labor Day Weekend Jazz Festival
Sat.-Mon., Sept. 2-4, noon-6 p.m., $20, Chaddsford Winery, 632 Baltimore Pike, Chaddsford, 610-388-6221, www.chaddsford.com
You Should Know:
This three-day event gives visitors the opportunity to taste a wide array of varietals and listen to some smoothed-out jazz. This is strictly for the grown and sexy children are technically allowed, but they're not recommended. No worries, the au pair's got everything under control. What, you don't have an au pair? Oh, sorry … the winery's actually washing its hair until Tuesday. Take a rain check?
Itinerary: Sets from local musicians like Dave Posmontier, Annie Sciolla and the Budesa Brothers; food from Pace One Restaurant; watching sauced accountants bob their heads awkwardly.
Don't Forget: That vodka-in-the-Nalgene trick. While you can bring grub, outside alky is strictly prohibited. (Boo! Hiss!)

Snakes in a Museum
Sat.-Sun., Sept. 2-3, 2:30 p.m., free with museum admission, The Academy of Natural Sciences, 19th and the Parkway, 215-299-1000, www.acnatsci.org
You Should Know:
Hoping to capitalize on the buzz garnered by a recently released movie (Hint: It's not Who Killed the Electric Car?), The Academy will let patrons check out some live reptiles and compare their behavior to their CGI counterparts.
Itinerary: Specimens like the Kenyan sand boa and the Vietnamese beauty snake; qualified handlers. (We hope.)
Don't Forget: To watch your language. You're going to want to mother-eff this and mother-eff that, but reign it in there are women and children around. Also, don't forget y'all tazers.
