The pocket emptying caught on, and nowadays the dollar collages number in the hundreds. Framed and preserved, most bills feature a name or two (many couples have declared their everlasting love this way), an alumni shout-out or the occasional skater-boi drawing.
"Lots of sports teams will come in and they'll all sign dollar bills and put them on the wall," says Redelheim. Drunks are also big spenders when it comes to jotting-and-donating. In fact, bartenders collect the bills in a bucket behind the bar until they're turned into permanent wallflowers.
Be forewarned: A dollar with your name on it has no monetary value after it hits the bucket. Says Redelheim, "Once you hand it over, it belongs to the wall."
