On The DLDr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School
Do you really need proof that Philly is as edgy as New York? Even Dr. Sketchy's is starting a Philly chapter of its NYC-based freak-art cabaret sketch group.
This Saturday, Trinity Gallery challenges you to change up your still-life repertoire at Anti-Art School, the monthly sketching session that combines three hours of art, booze, hot burlesque performers, circus freaks and hunka-hunka beefcakes. You bring your dip pens and watercolors; Sketchy brings out your artistic talents with music and off-the-wall contests.
The creepy-sounding Dr. Sketchy is actually founder Molly Crabapple, illustrator for the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. In just a few short years, Crabapple has launched Sketchy's in six cities, including Phoenix, Detroit and Melbourne.
But before you go thinking that Philadelphia isn't special, consider this: Not only will our premiere event star legendary Hell Cat queen Kiki Berlin posing in various burlesque costumes, images from the session will be included in The Official Dr. Sketchy's Rainy Day Colouring Book, the new release from Crabapple and John Leavitt. Etch that onto your to-do lists, cool kids.
