Eats : Food
Feeding FrenzyTenth and Wolf is more than just a shitty mafia flick starring James "Other Dude in The Notebook" Marsden. It's also the new-ish home of Gavone's, which specializes in authentic South Philly roast pork. Guests can enjoy sausage scaloppine, baked ham and the spot's six flat-screen TVs and full bar. Bite This: Classic roast pork add-ons include sharp or mild provolone, spinach and broccoli rabe.
On July 1, Joe and Brenda Lazar closed their well-known Italian eatery on Front and Bainbridge to begin preparing for a move north to South. The new location should be ready by September, but the owners encourage Tori's faithful to keep checking the Web site for updates.
Come Aug. 4, Amada head chef Jose Garces and his staff will leave on a two-week sojourn to Spain to finalize the menu for his upcoming wine bar. (The name is in quotation marks because it's not official just yet.) The menu will feature Garces' famous tapas and pinchos, those eclectic Basque bar snacks that are experiencing a resurgence thanks to Apamate and others. The opening date is tentatively set for fall.
This fly-by-night takeout/dessert spot, which replaced the beloved TJ Cobblestone's last October, has hung up its hookah hoses. The owners are MIA as of now, and the building's landlord says he has no idea what's going on with the space. And this is neither here nor there, but he was kinda mean about the whole thing. Sorry, buddy, but there goes your chances of landing the lease for Lazor's Old Tyme Fletchery.
