"Alala"

The 21st century has been hard on everyone, and it's enough to make even the curled eyelashes and confidently bored paparazzi gazes of the self-proclaimed fabulous set droop a little. Turning that world-weariness into a hot track is a trick, but it's no problem for the Sao Paulo club-punk collective Cansei de Ser Sexy ("Tired of Being Sexy" in Portuguese), who invite grimy synths, kittenishly bored vocals (out of the mouth of a babe named Lovefoxxx) and jittery, stop-start rhythms behind their velvet rope. Once the party skids to a halt, there's not much left to do—except escape into its haze once again. This is the song Paris Hilton should have swiped for her first foray into the singles life, not that low-tide Blondie impersonation currently terrorizing the country's Top 40 playlists—although her auto-tuned flattitude wouldn't hold even half a diptych to Lovefoxxx's petulant remove.
