The Agenda : Picks

Day Tripper

Fun With the Founding Fathers

Tue., July 4, 5 p.m., $20, Solar One at Stuyvesant Cove Park, 2420 FDR Dr. and Service Road East (23rd Street and the East River), Manhattan, 718-417-7362, www.rooftopfilms.com

Critical of American foreign and domestic policy but not quite Unabomber crazy? Celebrate the Fourth of July with a twist of social awareness.

Screenings include director Rob VanAlkemade's Preacher with an Unknown God, a documentary about Reverend Billy and his Church of Stop Shopping, which received an honorable mention in short filmmaking at Sundance; Night Vision, about a soldier's return from Iraq; and Washington, a silly animated short by Brad Neely on the life of the real GW.

"But we're not gonna lecture people on that day," says Rooftop artistic director Mark Rosenberg. In other words, think Michael Moore without the Hollywood grandstanding.
