Whoever said volunteering had to involve potato scrubbing never met the Philly Roller Girls. The bloodthirsty derby league is looking for fresh meat to help it in its upcoming Hostile City Honeys vs. Broad Street Butchers bout at Millennium Skate World in Camden. Eight to 10 volunteers are needed to work the door, keep scores, sell tickets and play mascot. For donating time, volunteers will get free tickets to bouts and become part of the PRG family. Contact Kristi DellaBadia at anniechrist07@yahoo.com or visit www.phillyrollergirls.com.
Mon.-Wed., July 24-26, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
There's nothing more disconcerting than crossing paths with a UFO (Unidentified Floating Object) while tubing down the Delaware. Kittatinny Canoes' annual On and Under event drew more than 317 volunteers last year and disposed of 21 tons of trash. Canoeing equipment is provided along with free campsites and barbecue dinners. Not just a hipster uniform, Urban Blazers is a nonprofit that shows city youth what nature really looks like. Teaming up with organizations that deal with youth homelessness and truancy, outdoorsy folks are needed to organize, lead and attend hiking, biking, kayaking and rock climbing outings. Volunteers must be in good physical condition. Contact David Reuter at 484-437-7070, e-mail urbanblazers@hotmail.com or visit www.urbanblazers.org.

These days, it's hard to attend a big event without liquidating your nest egg. But thanks to hundreds of area volunteers, Philly is host to one of the country's largest LGBT film fests. First-time volunteers are asked to attend a one-hour general training session beginning at 6:30 p.m. on July 6 at the William Way Community Center, with an additional hour focusing on more specific tasks (selling tickets, managing the house, etc.). Meet new people, check out celebrities and see one or more of more than 140 filmsall for free. Give and ye shall receive. Contact Patrick Brogan at 215-733-0608, ext. 260, e-mail pbrogan@phillyfests.com or visit www.phillyfests.com.

For many women, a purse is an extension of their personality, a reflection of their success or, in the words of Carrie Bradshaw, "just a little bag [that] we feel naked in public without." Handbag boutique Viv Pickle is teaming up with The Career Wardrobe to construct the biggest handbag in history and celebrate 10 years of CW outfitting women transitioning into the workforce. Volunteers are needed to help build the giant bag and collect and sort handbag donations at 30th Street Station. Contact Sheri Cole at 215-568-6693, e-mail scole@careerwardrobe.org or visit www.careerwardrobe.org.
