Accidental Tourist

Fri., June 30, 9 p.m., $45, Borgata Music Box, 1 Borgata Way, Atlantic City, N.J., 609-317-1000, www.theborgata.com

The members of power pop powerhouse Cheap Trick hail from Rockford, Ill., but the band's first incarnation (guitarist Rick Neilsen, bassist Tom Petersson and drummer Bun E. Carlos) has roots here.

Neilsen, who is known for playing multi-necked guitars and wearing ridiculous pants, hasn't lived in our fair city for decades. "Heck, I'm a tourist now," he jokes. "I don't even like myself."

When he did live in Philly, his starving-artist status gave him an all-new appreciation for the free-er things in life. "[We used to] walk along the Schuylkill and watch them scull," reminisces Neilsen. "It looks like too much work. I never did like to climb mountains either. Guitar playing is dangerous as it is."

Best Place to Buy a Five-Necked Guitar: The only place I used to go was called DiPintos; it was over near the Continental. They had plenty of weird guitars, weird stuff they made, weird stuff they trade. I fit right in.

Best Place to Get a Beer and a Slice of Pizza: Every time I'm in Philly, I never eat pizza. I go to my three hangouts for cheesesteaks: Pat's, Geno's and Jim's. You know, you gotta have that Whiz. There was [also this one] place where you could get the cheapest lunch at Third and Race. His name was Sammy and he used to swear at his wife. We used to learn new curse words when we went there.

Best Place to Check out the Southern Girls: Well, why don't you tell me where you go? Rittenhouse Square is always kind of nice, if it's not packed with some activity. A good friend of mine has a store, Asta de Blue, off of Rittenhouse she actually used to go out with Tom.

Best Place to Take Someone if You Want Them to Want You: There are so many good streets and good areas, [but] you can find anything you want right on Walnut.
