Soul Position

Everybody stop saying RJD2 still lives in Ohio. The boho sampler/producer has been living in West Philly a while nowand bringing his mix of blaxploitative tracks, Gamble-and-Huff strings, Latino brass and ballsy grooves back to Columbus only occasionally. But when he does, he's hooking up with his shrill rapping buddy Blueprint. From their first collaboration, 8,000,000 Stories, to their due-soon Things Go Better with RJ and Al (Rhymesayers), the pair paint some chatty-ass portraits, sonically and lyrically. While Blue's either spitting out battle rap or chilling cold phonics, RJ's splicing and slathering some of the most sympathetic beats any rapper could want. Soul Position is one of hip-hop's most underappreciated acts. So appreciate already.
