Fri.-Sun., May 26-29, Ocean Galleries, 4809 Atlantic Brigantine Blvd., Brigantine, N.J., 609-264-8004
With Brigantine being a dry town and all, the only way to get boozed up is to take in the absinthe-fueled trippiness of Francophile favorite Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and other painters from the Belle Epoque era. Looking at life through the prism of industrial-scientific revolutions and Europe's breakdown of social classes, the Belle Epoque was not strictly a Parisian art form (see Czech painter Alphonse Mucha's soft pastels). But the decorative, sometimes quietly decadent works that came out of late 19th-century France (including Jules Cheret, Eugene Grasset and Pierre Bonnard) showed the Belle at her best. Drink it in.
