Remember the comic books of your youth? Spider-Man? Batman? The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers? (What, you never read that?)
Get your childhood fix this Saturday, as area comic book stores celebrate Free Comic Book Day for the fifth year in a row. Major comic books publishers in America send out special free editions of their comics, ranging from superhero offerings like Superman/Batman #1 to indie titles such as the melancholy French book Mr. Jean.
"They're giving away a special guide to the top 100 graphic novels of all time," says Atomic City Comics employee Daryll Jones. "It's a great way to find out [about] some of the best graphic literature and famous books, particularly if you're new to comics."
Bill Weney, manager at Fat Jack's Comicrypt, says fans should grab one of each. "They're free!" he says. "That's like asking someone which they'd rather see: Brokeback Mountain or Silent Hill. If they're free, just see both."
