Naked City

Bad Idea Factory

Steal Smart

When we told our Running Numbers columnist Nick Norlen about the Daily News' new "Numbers Racket" feature, he had this to say: "

1: Number of digit-based Philly tidbit sidebars named after mob lotteries that this town has room for."

That's just how Norlen talks, folks. But while it's true that CP didn't invent the big-number-with-pithy-comment format (Harper's Index, we bow to thee), it's also true that the DN's new "daily look at the numerals that define us" is strikingly similar to our long-standing box o' numbers—one year old this week!—right down to the gambling reference. At least the DN had the decency to leave humor out of their homage.

More features the Daily News should steal from us:
  1. Cardboard Doll: The people paper's stiff take on sex.
  2. Philly Crunk: A news column with attytood and frequent swearing.
  3. Hot Water Bottle: Jonathan Takiff recounts the weekend and its effects on his aching back.
  4. I Like-Like You / I'm Very Put Off By You
  5. Arts: Features on local books, dance, theater, etc.
  6. Ill-Advised Concept Contraption: Um ...
  7. Nude Metropolis: A quirky, front-of-the-paper features section nobody's really sure how to define.
