An Evening With

Dangerous Women

Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, Wed., April 5, 7:30 p.m., free, Scheuer Room, Kohlberg Hall, Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, 215-563-7110

It wasn't that long ago when women were only good for making babies and dinner, all the while keeping their mouths shut to appease the opposite sex. Then women started voicing their thoughts, and all hell broke loose. They began speaking in public everywhere they went. Some even smoked cigarettes!

Much of this mayhem and chaos can be attributed to Jane Addams, the first president of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF). Addams was labeled the "most dangerous woman in America" in the 1920s. Today this uncontrollable group of peacemongers fights for equality and justice in every part of the world. Somebody ought to stop them soon.

Next week, catch eight of WILPF's past presidents as they recount their adventurous and often tumultuous histories as leaders of this peace organization. Here's hoping we can get 'em knocked up and barefoot before the night's over.
