Top 5 Organic Eateries

1 InFusion Coffee and Tea Gallery

7133 Germantown Ave., 215-248-1718

Buzz has it the best chai is found at this coffee-and-tea authority. The fair-trade joe, loose-leaf teas and herbal infusions come from local companies, and the organic-when-possible ingredients hail from a nearby co-op. Need a galactic caffeine trip? Try the Milky Way mocha, with espresso, steamed milk, dark and white chocolate, caramel and whipped cream.

2 Mugshots Coffeehouse & Juicebar

2100 Fairmount Ave., 267-514-7145

Across the street from Eastern State Pen, these mugs come with a conscience. This coffee bar purchases fair-trade java and free-range products from Green Meadow Farms, and does Philly proud with its recycling policies. The Philly Five-O, a ciabatta-grilled sandwich featuring ham, red onion, stone-ground mustard and Swiss cheese, is downright scandalous. Put one away, stat.

3 Essene Market & Cafe

719 S. Fourth St., 215-922-1146

Crunchies know Essene is one of the few local grocers that offers vegan burritos. The natural foods market serves peace of mind in the form of root vegetable patties and blissful cabbage apple strudel. With organically grown goods from Paradise Farm, the rotating menu is free of animal products and refined sweeteners.

4 Cresheim Cottage Cafe

7402 Germantown Ave., 215-248-4365

The globally inspired comfort cuisine at the Cottage has the locally and sustainably grown concept covered. The red bean chilaquiles are a mouthful with beans, tomatoes and peppers stuffed between corn tortillas and topped with cotija cheese.

5 The Pond

630 N. Second St., www.pondcoffee.com

Fans of filtered water swear that Pond's coffee is just plain better. The reverse-osmosis water filtration system, engineered by Jonathan Silver, keeps the crap out of your tap. Ask to see the aquaponic system set up in the basement, with hydro-grown veggies and tanks of fish to ensure that no liquid goes to waste. Water not quelling your hunger pangs? Try a breakfast burrito with organic beans, fluffy eggs steamed by the espresso machine, seasoned rice and farmer cheese.
