Even the fringe has its fringes, and there on the outer edge of avant-jazz resides Arthur Doyle. Joining Doyle for this ensemble, in something of a summit of iconoclasts, is reedman Daniel Carter. The two haven't crossed paths since their early days on the NYC loft scene, and both have remained criminally under-recorded over the ensuing decades. A shared insistence on complete freedom confined both to the margins, compounded on Doyle's part by incredibly bad luck; fleeing the lack of opportunity in the States in the early '80s, he was imprisoned in Paris for five years for a crime he didn't commit. Carter, meanwhile, hooked up with a variety of rock acts, most recently appearing on Yo La Tengo's Summer Sun. Carter's more lyrical flights contrast sharply with Doyle's brash R&B-inflected honking and vocal outbursts, making for an intriguing combination. They will be joined by Dave Cross (turntables), Vinnie Paternostro (electronics), and Temple of Bon Matin drummer Edward Wilcox.
