Chapterhouse, 620 S. Ninth St., 215-238-2626
Chris and Shannon Frank opened this coffee shop/gallery one month ago. Patrons can pick up a perk-up while perusing the walls, which feature works by local artists such as Rob Cortez and Agnes Montgomery. Although the place already has seating, a sunny new room is under construction that Chris hopes will be ready for January First Friday. Bite This: The term "floater" doesn't always carry a positive connotation. Let Chapterhouse change your mindorder a steamin' hot chocolate with a buoylike chocolate-covered marshmallow.
Ninety Nine Restaurant & Pub, 3617 Horizon Blvd., Trevose, 215-355-9099
With more than 100 locations around the country, this Massachusetts-based eatery rivals pieces-of-flair chains like Friday's and Applebee's. Expect a casual, family-friendly, they-sing-to-you-when-it's-your-birthday-type atmosphere. Bite This: Try the chain's boneless buffalo wings with "Gold Fever" honey-mustard barbecue sauce. How's that for original?
Pink Rose Pastry Shop, 630 S. Fourth St., 215-592-0565
Although new owner Larry Frank recently purchased the 20ish-year-old bakery, there's no need to freak: He's been careful to keep local traditions intact. Devotees will be pleased to know he's retained all the same bakers and the quaint, dollhouse-like atmosphere. Frank hopes to add some new menu items, but hasn't set anything just yet. Bite This: Throw that weak-ass Genuardi's pastry in the trashPink Rose's famous éclairs are two times the size. The monstrosities are topped with chocolate, fresh strawberries and white chocolate shavings.

Mizu Sushi Bar, 111 S. 40th St.
Owner Michael Suh has announced a new location on Penn's campus in addition to his cozy 20-seater at 133 S. 20th St. While the spot will be similar to the original in size, Mizu is expanding its hot offerings. Expect more soups, endless tempura choices and eclectic bento boxes. A unique feature for health nuts at both Mizus: All sushi is available with brown rice. Suh is aiming for a mid-January debut. Bite This: The "firecracker roll" is doubly delicious: It's a traditional California roll (imitation crab, avocado, cucumber) topped with spicy tuna, masago and scallions.
