ART ATTACK
An art-vendor party thrown by a silk-screener and a graphic designer? S'OK. A boozy bash thrown by hell-bent rockers with a screen printing press called Frankenstein that creates psychobilly designs for bands the world over? Now you're talking. Or Heartburne Studios and DaveGlassArt are talking. Glass and others on the lowbrow art roster are internationally known for their fiery pop-scapades, but many artists at the Killpop II Underground Arts Festival feel ignored by the local art scene. "[We're] intimidated or turned off by First Friday gallery openings," says Glass. "This is a way to see like-minded artists' work in a laid-back setting and for artists to sell their wares and not have 30 to 40 percent of their earnings taken away by gallery owners." This year's lineup includes the Young Werewolves, Full Blown Cherry, Stainboy and Jess Ex. "The bands that play seem to jive with the wild, colorful and sometimes racy artwork that we do," says Heartburne's Doug Heusser. "Killpop isn't your typical 'wine and cheese' gallery show."
