One Nation Under God?DEBATE TEAM
American Atheists they're sick of the God thing. They want anyone who digs God to keep Him out of their faces, out of their schools, out of damned near everything. You see, atheists like Darwin, monkeys and that whole evolutionary theory thing. They see heaven as a state on Earth we can achieve through hard work and non-sinning. Now the Urban Family Institute, on the other hand, they like the Lord. They want to implicate Him in everything they do, say and hear. They're real down with kids abstaining from sex, having more prayers in schools and pushing the gay folks back into the closet. So wouldn't it be funny if, say, Bill Devlin, the founder of the not-for-profit Urban Family Institute, and Dave Silverman, the spokesperson for the American Atheists, organization got together? To rap on homosexual rights? To debate the role of Pat Robertson in international politics? To discuss creationism? Sounds like a culture war, all right.
"Culture Wars," with Dave Silverman and Bill Devlin, Mon., Sept. 12, 7 p.m., free, Montgomery Auditorium, Free Library of Philadelphia, 19th & Vine sts., 215-585-6515.
