Hungry HoursSometimes life comes down to a choice between doing the laundry and being well-fed. And sometimes it doesn't. Ditch the ramen noodles, dress in your Sunday best, and eat for free every night of the workweek with CP's guide to happy hour mooching.
Monday
Start the week off right with complimentary gourmet pizza at
Davio's (111 S. 17th St.), which also offers $5 martinis in the lounge (5-7 p.m.).
Tuesday
Get your fancy on and stumble over to Brasserie Perrier (1619 Walnut St.) for free hors d'oeuvres (5-7 p.m.). Also: $2.50 beer specials and $4 well drinks.
Wednesday
Okay, you made it to hump day. Celebrate (or commiserate) with friends, co-workers or your favorite apartment complex cohabitants. Make plans for The Irish Pubs' (both the 1123 and 2007 Walnut St. locations) famous "Happy Hour Party" (minimum 10 people per party). Included are free French bread pizza, nachos and vegetable platter with dip. Best of all, no cover! Night owls can go and hit up Cavanaugh's (119 S. 39th St.). A $5 dollar cover gets you 50-cent house drinks and drafts and, oh yeah, all the free pizza you can eat (10 p.m.-midnight).
(We'd be remiss in not mentioning Center City's Summer Sips promotion, wherein every Wednesday through the end of August your favorite watering holes and restaurants offer specials on drinks, and some are kind enough to dole out free bites. Visit www.centercityphila.org for more.)
Thursday
Stop by Alma de Cuba (1623 Walnut St.) for drink specials with free tapas (5-7 p.m.).
One of the best kept secrets is Zanzibar Blue's (200 S. Broad St.) complimentary buffet (5-7 p.m.). The bar also features specials on cosmos and draft beers on Thursdays. You can always stick around for the music too.
Friday
You've made it through the week. Good for you. Why not treat yourself to Striped Bass (1500 Walnut St.) and its free raw bar? The Friday happy hour also features rotating drink specials (5-7 p.m.). Manayunk Brewing Company (4120 Main St., Manayunk) has a complimentary buffet (5-7 p.m.) with appetizers on Fridays. They also have a house magician. But you're the one who's just eaten for free all week; maybe you should teach him a trick or two.
