All Nude Lemurs
A trip to the zoo ain't what it used to be. For one night only, the Philadelphia Zoo is supplanting the bagged lunches and OshKosh overalls with wine, cheese and everything you ever wanted to know about animal sex. That's right, folks, it's Adult Zoo Camp. "All of the information is scientifically correct, but it's also done in a fun, lighthearted way," says Ron Fricke, vice president of education at the zoo. "We cover who mates most often, who mates the longest, who is the best endowed, even who has the most babies. We also focus on why this information is so important to us in trying to work with species survival plans and endangered species." The research, which will be detailed on the tour, involves projects in 25 locations around the world, ranging from the study of predatory lions in East Africa to breeding decisions at the zoo itself. Should any naughty animal behavior take place during the event, voyeurs are encouraged to bring a camera or binoculars. Just keep your hands out of the cages.
Adult Zoo Camp, Sat., Aug. 6, 1-8 p.m., $115-$125 (includes refreshments and dinner), Philadelphia Zoo, 34th St. and Girard Ave., 215-243-5311, www.philadelphiazoo.org.
