"This show encompasses each element of the arts which is why we've entitled it "The Fix,'" says Jamica El, co-organizer of The Art Fix, a several-installment art series. The shows will vary in theme, but all concentrate on obvious and not-so-obvious art styles from both local and national artists. "One remarkable thing about this show is the variation. There is a self-taught graphic and crochet artist, Sheeba, who will be showing a 22-inch by 24-inch hand-crocheted self-portrait. It's unlike anything I've ever seen," says El. "There will be an acrylic spray-paint painting from Filthy (G. Gomez), and Milo Sledge and Courtney Vaughn will be showing unique wood installation and graffiti portraits. We felt like all the submitted work was a good representation of each theme."
GeoClan, a locally based multicultural nonprofit, will sponsor the series, adding to their resumé of events geared to uplift and affect positive change through creativity. In addition to giving many artists exposure, organizers are hoping to establish a space where artists can connect with viewers on an intimate level, leaving them with inspiration to explore their individual creativity. The exhibition will be accompanied by a number of performing artists, including Will Brock, Gabbriele & Tangible Truth and Younglao. "With this show, we've provided just the antidote for the true art junkie. I want them to feel like their art addiction has been fixed."
The Art Fix, Fri., July 8, 7 p.m., $10, The Rotunda, 4014 Walnut St., 215-573-3234.
