Freeway

Hip-hop

Branded a hometown hero by fans and radio, Philly's own Freeway dropped his dodgy lifestyle to become a nationally recognized voice of hip-hop (thanks mostly to dance and street hits such as "Roc the Mic," "What We Do" and "Flipside"). Thanks to major label shuffling — and his mentor Beanie Sigel temporarily wrapped up in legal woes — Freeway's career outlook might seem dismal. Still, the man looks focused. It's been two years since his debut, but his long-awaited second album, Free At Last (Def Jam/Roc-A-Fella), is finally set to drop this summer. He's also ventured into the business world, opening a custom accessory and rim shop in Southwest Philly. This weekend he's bringing it back home to set off Tri Global Entertainment's fashion show. You can't knock the hustle.

Sun., July 3, 10 p.m. doors, show midnight, $20 (ladies free before 11 p.m.), with Rosco P. Coldchain and Random, Rhythms Entertainment Complex, 4700 Wissahickon Ave., 267-978-6897.
