It's Sunday on South Second — Glam to be exact — and GM Gregg DiPipi is chilling, setting up DJ Rome's just-started '80s and '90s new wave pop night. The '90s? Atsa nize. Everyone can fight the foo and scream at trees. But DiPipi's chilling because as underboss (beneath Emerald City's Joe Dougherty) of the Licensed Beverage Association of the Entertainment District of Philly, he's rallied booze purveyors citywide so to push off Councilman Michael Nutter's smoking ban bill from a vote before council's June 16 vacation. That's right, cancersticks: Stench your breath — the season in the sun is yours. "First, we petitioned Mayor Street to veto the bill because it was too severe," says DiPipi, a nonsmoker. "We were just getting ready to petition him because it's too lenient. How do you like that? Too lenient." DiPipi says the proposed bill's two-year waiver to taverns with less than 10 percent of gross sales in food played more toward council's constituents — corner bars, VFWs — than to Center City restaubars. So they shut down the Nutter. "We're going to keep working every angle," says DiPipi, knowing that sooner or later a ban will strike. So for now, keep puffing Smokey. … "Punk's not dead — it's moving around the corner," says Rob Windfelder who (along with wife Stefanie), in an about-face, will lease the old Zipperhead name from Rick Millan for use at their new 528 S. Fourth St. space, Crash Bang Boom. Come July 1 at noon, Zipperhead memorabilia will be firmly ensconced in Crash Bang Boom without making the new space "a museum for its predecessor. … We want the name — its historical significance," says Windfelder, "to be maintained while heading into the future." … No more crash bang boom?: Has South Philly's noisiest ensemble, Man Man, busted up (ego? mustaches?) while recording its second CD? Is drummer Honus Ryan maintaining the Man Man name while finding some new players? … THEATAHHH: Brat Productions may be known for ab-fab theatricality, but Madi Distefano's company gets serious for its 2005-2006 season's central series, Causeway — focused on issues of human slavery, globally and locally. "This isn't just about what we view traditionally as slave trade in America's past," says Distefano. "It's about cocoa plantations of the Ivory Coast, the wine trade of Africa, the carpet factories of India, now." Brat — which will offer financial support and production assistance — seeks collaboration with artists in film, music and dance

on the series at Mum Puppettheatre this January. Contact Leigh Maida at Brat, 215-605-5667, or visit www.bratproductions.org/causeway/. Before heading to the prestigious Director's Symposium at La MaMa International in Spoletto, Italy, where she's been accepted, B. Someday Productions' Michelle Pauls will do A Potable Joyce — A Watered Down Version of Ulysses at the Rosenbach June 18 and 19. Finally, the Fringe/Live Arts fest starts its once-monthly Mondays at Bar Noir June 20 to gain exposure for its perf-art-ers and musical types looking to preview their shows in front of boozehounds. … I won't be so crass as to tell you the sacred vows or joyful promises I graciously witnessed exchanged at the wedding of Lauren Hart (10! show) and Todd Carmichael (La Colombe) in the lush garden (and outdoor humidity) of Lindy Snider's Bryn Mawr estate. All I can say is that bride and groom ditched their wedding duds and hopped into the pool by the end of the evening. And I didn't even get splashed. … WHOWHATWHERE: We know Donald Trump and Pamela Anderson were giving away money at his Taj Mahal in accordance with the nest-headed one's birthday. But the Donald ceased long enough to see hat-headed Van Morrison perform in Trump's own arena. … In a race toward who-is-saddest-ness in local reality show stakes: (not) American Idol Justin Guarini and (barely a) Survivor Gervase Peterson played some charity softball game at Capitolo Field on Wharton Street while Pat Croce watched. … Stop them before they kill again: Area-native producers Chris Bender and JC Spink are set to shoot The Butterfly Effect 2. … Horny, swarthy Townhall drop their national debut, American Dreams (on the Iguana/33rd St. label), at The TLA June 17. … You say you want multimedia in Fishtown? The folk from GERM Books and Gallery give it to you on June 18 at the Manhattan Room: "The Fishtasticon event up here in Fishtastotown," says live participant/GERM mouthpiece David E. Williams of performances from GERM owner Jen Bates' Parasite Militia ("two kids, two synths, ONE vision"), video installations via Waiting for Cable and things courtesy David Talento. … When Aaron Luis Levinson isn't busy moving his Libertad Records and its studios into ye old Ruffhouse facility in Conshohocken, he's taking on a new reggaeton Thursday (once a month, starting June 16, at Fluid), creating war with the night's other reggaeton parties. "We know there's another thang (Esta Bien, Silk City) but we're bringing live acts each time while spinning unavailable underground shit straight from La Isla Del Encanto," says Levinson. … Go ahead, look gay: On June 16, the Academy of Music — readying for Evita's premiere — asks fans to hold their arms up for as long as they can for that infamous Eva pose. Hit the steps at 12:30 p.m., bitches.
