Heavy Trash

Rock/Rawk

The announcement that Jon Spencer and Matt Verta-Ray are Heavy Trash immediately brings to mind the proclamation that Bill S. Preston and Ted "Theodore" Logan are Wyld Stallyns!: men with ambitious dreams to mine the past to better the future. Where Bill and Ted harvested the dead for a history report, Jon and Matt raid Chuck Berry's recycling bin for 1950s-style chord vamps. Dredging up history can yield mixed results (not everyone who goes back in time can get an A), and Heavy Trash, free of the constraints of '50s censorship and unhampered by metaphor, euphemism or subtlety, let their velvet tongues wag explicitly about what their predecessors could only hint at: "Hey baby, c'mon let's ball." It's the kind of raunchiness that stops just shy of mounting hidden cameras in women's bathrooms.

Wed., June 15, 8 p.m., $10-$12, with The Sadies, The North Star, 27th and Poplar sts., 215-684-0808, www.northstarbar.com.
