Just as our idea of what's old advances along with our own birthdays, so the prevailing view of what's sexy might also develop and mature, were it not so defined by youth culture. But as women grow out of the MTV/Hollywood ideal, some have chosen to take up arms against the limited view society takes of sexuality.
Case in point: Betty Dodson (pictured), proclaimed by herself and others as the "guru of the female orgasm" for her work in the '60s and '70s, now finds herself in her 70s, and dating a twentysomething. She and her boyfriend Eric Wilkinson appear in Deidre Fishel's film, Still Doing It: The Intimate Lives of Women Over 65, just one of nine couples discussing their relationships, all by turns as mundane and unique as those of younger couples.
At this week's screening, presented as part of the First Person Festival, Dodson will be joined by another participant, author Harriet Sohmers Zwerling. With their defiant stance that sex just for fun is absolutely OK, their outspokenness benefits the younger generation too.
Still Doing It, Sat., June 11, 7 p.m., $10, Boehm Auditorium at Graduate Hospital, 1800 Lombard St., 215-569-9700, www.firstpersonfestival.org.
