From the sound of Rilo Kiley's most recent CD, More Adventurous all those chirpy Tijuana Brass-style horns and softly grinding Garth Hudson-like organs you'd think you were going for a slow, mellow hayride. But rather than go for the watery, stonewashed angst of the majority of her Saddle Creek brethren, Jenny Lewis is out-n-out pissy, taking on everything from romance ("Does He Love You") to art ("It's a Hit") with newfound crabbiness. "Any asshole can open up a museum," sings Lewis. "No one wants to pay to hear your happiness." Dag, girl. Opening for Rilo Kiley is the less-than-churlish Mac McCaughan (pictured). One would think his duties running the Merge label and hawking new Spoon CDs would keep him busy. The Superchunk frontman apparently still has the occasional moment to peddle the soft soap of Portastatic, adding his reedy vocals to a breezy brand of autumnal pop.
