Playlist Philadelphia

Shuffling IPods

If compact discs are going the way of cassettes, then MP3 playlists are the new mix tape. It's great for music dorks — not only do we get a new means of showing off our collections to friends, now we can do it portably. Run a line from your player to a stereo at the next party you attend, and your killer mix becomes the house DJ. That's the idea behind The Khyber's Playlist Philadelphia event: For 15 minutes, your iPod is the DJ. In its second installment after a quiet start in March, the event challenges participants to get creative with their allotted time. It'd be easy to throw down only one Bardo Pond song (or a dozen Paint It Black songs), but the best sets will probably fall somewhere in between, giving us a variety of songs we all know, obscurities, quiet murmuring tones and swift jams to make everybody dance.

Mon., April 25, 7:30 p.m., free, The Khyber, 56 S. Second St., 215-238-5888, www.thekhyber.com. Prizes to best playlists include a pair of Etymotic ER-6i earphones, an iPod Shuffle and a $50 gift card to the iTunes Music Store.
