Last year, Philadelphia-born tenor saxophonist Benny Golson added a new entry to his storied resume: He joined the likes of E.T., Indiana Jones and bigass dinosaurs by becoming a character in a Steven Spielberg film. The septuagenarian, a veteran of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and composer of numerous television scores, cameos alongside Tom Hanks at the climax of The Terminal. Golson's new album, Terminal 1 (Concord), commemorates/capitalizes on his appearance via the title song and a revisit to his own standard, "Killer Joe," which he performs in the film. The disc is a warm, swinging throwback to mid-'60s Blue Note sessions, and if there are few surprises, there are any number of joyous moments delivered by a more-than-capable quintet who make it all look easy.
Sat., Feb. 26, 8 p.m., $15-$22, Sedgwick Cultural Center, 7137 Germantown Ave., 215-248-9229.
