So raves ruined the drug trade and drove sales of parachute pants and pacifiers. Cut 'em a little slack; they also inspired a legion of young, progressive producers like Drop the Lime. The New York native started dropping drum 'n' bass tracks at age 14. However, he's no slave to the Amen Break (aka the whammy bar drum loop of D 'n' B). To get all genre-specific on you, Lime is a leader in the next wave of breakcore, which is not all that different from D 'n' B, or drill and bass for that matter. Just add an Animal House sense of humor to those hardcore punk tempos and thundering beats. Lime goes one step further, though, sometimes feeding the wolves B-movie piano lines, merry ambient melodies or his own developing vocals. Lime's manic LP debut, This Means Forever (Tigerbeat6), drops on Feb. 28, so see him now and say "I told you so" later.
