True techno music is about timbres and tones, not cheesy melodies and build-ups. Techno-junkies want to be mesmerized by the mechanical four-to-the-floor repetition, led through an idyllic spiral to nowhere. Scottish-born Neil Landstrumm is well-aware, tearing out hard, bass-quaking grooves that thrive on production and sound processing rather than musicality. Along with friends Tobias Schmidt and Dave Tarrida, Landstrumm garnered a whirlwind of attention in the 1990s via vigorous live performances across Europe and a plentitude of 12-inch releases on celebrated labels like Tresor, Peacefrog and his own Scandinavia imprint. Despite all that, Landstrumm's appearance at Metro Lounge on Saturday marks his Philly debut. In fact, it's the only North American stop on his current tour. So get your fix while you can. Don't techno for an answer.
Sat., Nov. 27, 9 p.m.-2 a.m., $10/$7 reduced/$5 before 10 p.m., with Tom++ and Darwin, Metro Lounge, 626 N. Front St., 215-238-1976, www.funkshun.us.
