Jarboe

Rock/pop

The Lon Chaney of disconsolate electro-metal, mad, moody Jarboe has a thousand voices: a quivering curious cackle, an accursed coo, an unholy caterwaul. In accordance with her Southern heritage, her tongue-lashed lyrics often root themselves in dissonant gospel blues. Sometimes, her words are nothing more than hell-hounded squeals and squawks. But there's much more than greasy ambience and field hollers to be found in her scarred catalog. As the former Swans frontwoman re-releases her recent solo material, we find her tense and maniacal (Anhedoniac) or soaked in claustrophobic dancetronica (Thirteen Masks). She's also alternately ethereal, torchy and whisperingly autumnal. Whatever Jarboe you get, pray you survive it.

Sun., Nov. 28, 8 p.m., $15-$18, with Neurosis, TLA, 334 South St., 922-1011.
