What's better than having someone cook for you? Having 250 people cook for you! For 13 years, the Ivy Legacy Foundation has orchestrated a delicious event that fills the stomach and the heart. "Philly's Men Are Cookin'" gathers men from the tri-state area who are ready to get down and dirty in the kitchen to raise money for college scholarships. Chaired by Terri Dean and Milika Singleton, with honorary co-chairs Delilah Winder (of Bluezette) and Dave Huddleston (of FOX29), PMAC is one of many activities that carry out the duties of the Ivy Legacy Foundation. "Our mission is to make a cultural and educational difference in the Greater Philadelphia community," Dean says. "In addition to the scholarships, we support other nonprofit organizations that are enriching the lives of boys and girls." But one has to wonder: Why no women? "We originally chose men because 13 years ago it wasn't as popular as it is today to see them in the kitchen," Dean explains. Guaranteed there won't be a lady in the house complaining about that! Dean concludes, "Nothing soothes the soul better than a plate of good food."
Philly's Men Are Cookin', Sat., Nov. 27, 6-9 p.m., $40, Ballroom at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, 12th and Arch sts., 215-604-3679, www.phillysmenarecookin.com.
