Dance/electronic
OK, so, the techno scene has been around since the '80s. Now we're well into the new millennium, and dance-music culture is wholeheartedly embracing the revivalist electro-clash phenomenon -- the trendiest music fad of the decade -- with help from DJs like Larry Tee, Felix da Housecat, International Deejay Gigolo's DJ Hell and even Adam X. Under the spell of this resurgence, more and more producers/DJs merge big-room techno with a nostalgic taste for some obviously dated electronic music. Why? Because it's fun. And North Jersey's Richard Hinge creates and spins synth-driven techno that is driving, mechanical, mesmerizing, sinister and meticulously tailored for large sound systems. His dark four-to-the-floor mayhem incorporates his industrial and electro influences like Skinny Puppy, Ministry and Kraftwerk. With releases on Disko B, Remains, Hidden Agenda and his own Conrail label, plus a mix-CD on Shadow Records, Hinge captivates the techno geeks of today with the industrial-fused, sinister techno of yesterday.
Fri., Jan. 30, 9 p.m.-2 a.m., $5, with Dissonance, Tom++, Full Circle and G-Drive, Ulana’s, 205 Bainbridge St., 215-922-4152.
