Hip-hop icon Grandmaster Flash declared Dexter the world's most creative and original DJ. The four-time DMC Australian champion is notorious for transforming the turntable into a musical instrument -- mixing up hip-hop while cuttin' and scratchin' various slabs of vinyl, ranging from golf instruction to meditation records. Dexter is the turntablist behind The Avalanches' psyched-out soundscapes and on-the-fly samples amid the band's lip-smacking live funk-rock. Touring all over the world with The Avalanches as well as solo, he consistently dazzles his hands-in-the-air audiences with block-rockin' beats and blazing fast turntable wizardry, fusing hip-hop with R&B, pop, urban, funk, soul, house and whatever else he sees fit. Expect a mix-CD from the Australian whiz kid in early 2004.
Wed., Nov. 5, 9:30 p.m.-2 a.m., $10, with Jugo, Rehab and Yardsale, Silk City, Fifth and Spring Garden sts., 215-592-8838.
