Under the Dome

Electronic/experimental

From the Casio-based electro-pop of his youth to more recent dabblings in darkly grand space music, Grant Middleton has made the bare-bone drone of the synthesizer his own as Under the Dome. Fellow Glaswegian Colin Anderson complements on loops and guitar effects. The duo unleashed scarred sci-fi on 1998's The Demon Haunted World (a lovely, lo-tech effort dedicated to all things Carl-Saganesque) and evil, sweaty, Midnight Express-ian ambience on 2002's Bellerophon (a hypnotic, whooshing work throbbing with the arpeggiated repetition of early Kraftwerk). For all that influence, UtD manage a moaning sound that's crystal clear and unique.

Sat., Sept. 13, 8 p.m. $10-$20, St. Maryís Hamilton Village, 3916 Locust Walk, 800-965-4827.
