Hip-hop/soul
Harking back to the glorious days of the Harlem Renaissance, when urban talent was a force to be reckoned with, Power 99's Tiffany Bacon, host of the popular Inner City show, delivers Side Gig, a new platform for musicians, poets, singers and dancers. Hailing from Philly, New York and as far south as North Carolina, six A-listers -- Brotherlife, Lady Alma, Black Ice, J. Hill, Tiffany Jones & M.U.S.E. and Tyra Kirkland -- are showing up to perform live for the taping of this TV pilot. Dipping and dabbling in everything from soul to hip-hop to house to gospel and sheer funk, stage-owning chanteuse Lady Alma never fails to draw ovations with her beautiful vocal chords. Black Ice, the first poet signed to Def Jam Records, most recently beamed his deep thought-inducing verse worldwide on HBO's Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry. Side Gig is a heartfelt attempt to televise what Tiffany Bacon calls a "good music" revolution.
Fri., Sept. 5, 9 p.m.-3 a.m., $5, 822 Latonya St. (near Eighth St.), open mic follows the show, lady99fm@aol.com.
