Thank God Coach didn't become a phenomenon. Sure, the Craig T. Nelson/Jerry Van Dyke sitcom aired for eight years, but it didn't have the legs that Sex and the City still has in its sixth and final season. Whether it's fate, fortune, or making lemons out of lemonade, Sex writer/executive producer Cindy Chupack -- who got her start writing for Coach -- hasn't exhausted her reserves of dating drama. The Between Boyfriends Book (St. Martin's Press) collects some of her thoughts on dudes who disappear, having too many "just friends" and the pros and cons of dating exes. It's short, but size doesn't matter, right? In Chupack's essays, sex takes a back seat to the art of sharing a meal or two with the latest in a series of strangers. And she's just as good with other single-gal concerns like chatting with dad and city life. She knows when to be gentle and when to bite. She'll make women laugh or shudder with recognition. As for guys, who knows what they'll like?
Cindy Chupack reads Fri., Aug. 15, 6 p.m., free, Borders Books & Music, 1 S. Broad St., 215-568-7400.
