Harry Connick Jr. Quartet

jazz

Put aside, for the moment, When Harry Met Sally Never mind Will & Grace. And please, please forget South Pacific on ABC. Strip away all of your pretty-boy notions about Harry Connick Jr., and focus on this: Dude can play the piano, and write solid tunes. Consult Other Hours: Connick on Piano Vol. 1 (Marsalis Music) for evidence: The brand-new disc consists of music composed for the ill-fated Broadway musical Thou Shalt Not. Here the Tony-winning tunes get a timeless quartet treatment by Connick and several compatriots, including longtime tenor sax sidekick Ned Goold. We're lucky they've chosen Philly as one stop on their brief tour. But please: no requests.

Sat., Aug. 9, 8 and 10 p.m., $50, Zanzibar Blue, Broad and Walnut sts., 215-732-4500.
