Out Hud

Rock/pop

You don't need to know about Out Hud's affiliation with !!! (the groups share several members) to dig them, and you don't need to know what the tunes are called for them to make you happy. They're all instrumental anyway, so there are no lyrics to distract you from the ringing guitars, white noise and burbling synth of "Dad, There's a Little Phrase Called Too Much Information" or the dub, breakbeats and cello of "The L Train is a Swell Train and I Don't Want to Hear You Indies Complain." With six tracks totaling less than 40 minutes, S.T.R.E.E.T. D.A.D. (Kranky) is only suggestive of the extended jams that make Out Hud's live shows transcendent. In their previous set at the Church on Sept. 12, 2001, Brooklyn's rhythm royalty thawed out the room, wordlessly playing two suites for a crowd of hips swaying and asses shaking against their better judgment. Funk's the word you don't want to use for music this right on, but what can you do when words fail?

Wed., July 30, 7:30 p.m., $8, with Beans and Need New Body, First Unitarian Church, 22nd and Chestnut sts., 800-594-TIXX.
