ãSexism in the Cityä Tea Party

Considering the example set by the Miller Lite commercials showing two women pillow fighting, the chesty and still-objectified Pamela Anderson Lee and the overall trend for women in the public eye to strip down to the bare necessities: Houston, we've got a problem -- sexism is alive and well. Miller apparently learned no lesson when the NCAA pressured CBS to refuse to air a sequel to the "Catfight" ad during the men's basketball championships last spring, since the latest boobvertisement features none other than Pam. Oh, and then there were the Coors NFL spots featuring throngs of rough-and-tumble men alongside those bustier-than-thou twins.

On Saturday, Sisters' Sanctuary's Tea Party comes to the rescue with a discussion titled, "Sexism In The City." Some questions to be raised at the powwow include: How does sexism affect our relationships or child-rearing? How does it affect black women in a white patriarchal society? How does it help or hinder women from loving themselves holistically and unconditionally? What are the effects of sexism on advertising and how does it sway what we buy? How does internalization of sexism affect self-image? Beer commercials are just one big, prominent example of this country's systemic sexism problem. At this month's discussion, the dialogue will flow fast and furious.
