Tiësto

While Sasha and Digweed cleaned up in club world with their deep progressive house and multiple Global Underground mix CDs, it seemed like your typical, clear-cut trance music was being swept under the rug. Then spiked-haired superstar Paul Oakenfold took the reins as the world's No. 1 DJ with his anthem-driven, progressive, trance-in-your-pants. And now, with trance back on top of the club scene, Holland's Tiësto has recently taken over the top DJ spot (according to DJ Magazine's 2002 list). The friendly, laid-back Tiësto (real name Tijs Verwest) has been pluggin' away since 1985, earning a reputation for impeccable mixing skills and a euphoric, uplifting sound that tugs at your gushing heart. Many trance fanatics know him for his now-defunct "Magik" and "In Search of Sunrise" mix-CD series. But only a few weeks ago, Tiësto dropped his most mature mix release to date Nyana -- two CDs of progressive trance gently sprinkled with house and techno. It's a pristine collection of Tiësto's favorite tracks along with previously unreleased material, remixes of Junkie XL, Conjure One and more, plus exclusive tracks from Gabriel & Dresden projects Motorcycle and Andain. Supporting the new release, this luminary graces Philly and is ready to wow you for sure.
