DAT Politics

France's DAT Politics has been putting out records for European labels like Fat Cat and A-Musik since 1998. They've also contributed standout tracks to the Clicks and Cuts series released by German glitch tastemakers Mille Plateaux. But in a genre dominated by mid-tempo tech house and dub or slowly shifting rhythmic noise, this foursome leans towards micromusic mash-up. You see, while most of their contemporaries are getting arty and theoretical, DAT Politics prefers to load the laptops with humor and a punk-rock sneer. There is a childlike exuberance to Tracto Flirt (Tigerbeat6), a domestic reissue of their vinyl-only debut, but it's the sugar rush of brats who need a time out. Baby rodent voices buzz and whirr over crisp crackling beats, pulses of fuzz and deconstructed carnival music, but if you listen closely there are structure and deeply imbedded hooks.

Thu., May 22, 8 p.m., $3-$5, all ages, Friendship House, 1822 N. Hancock St., 215-327-0697.
