Mondo Generator

Two days after opening for Red Hot Chili Peppers at Madison Square Garden with his band, Queens of the Stone Age, Nick Oliveri -- the one who doesn't look like Craig Kilborn, and does look like he used to play in The Dwarves -- will be on stage at The Khyber, but don't expect a scaled-down sound for the scaled-down stage. Mondo Generator, Oliveri's occasional other band, boasts all the Queens' fury (if not much of their finesse): They're loud, ugly, mean and as much fun as sticking your tongue in a light socket -- and we mean that in the best possible way. Given that the Queens' songs tend to pass through any number of side projects before ending up on their records, don't be surprised to hear a few Oliveri-sung tunes from Songs for the Deaf, and expect all the pent-up fury that touring with the world's most mediocre ex-rock band is bound to drum up.

Thu., May 22, 9 p.m., $12-$14, with 1929, The Khyber, 56 S. Second St., 215-238-5888.
