Bratwrst 㚳

There's something fitting about the idea of Brat Productions hosting a shindig in the Mummers Museum. Madi Distefano's theater company is known for its site-specific performances, creating crazy, often comedic worlds in unexpected places (Brat's most recent feat was a mini-fest of Wallace Shawn plays in the penthouse suite of the Warwick Hotel). The Mummers Museum is the perfect space for Brat to inhabit for its annual benefit -- the museum contains both the glitz and glamour of showbiz and a sense of down-home Philly pride, an apt metaphor for Brat's loud and larger-than-life presence in the Philly arts scene, where it has earned a solid place as a hometown favorite.

For "Bratwürst '03," Distefano has done more than secure a great locale for a party -- she's rounded up a list of performers, guests and auction-able goodies that should have folks flocking to South Philly. Hosted by Distefano and Big Tea Party host Elizabeth Fiend, the evening will include performances from Pig Iron Theatre Co. (from their latest work, James Joyce Is Dead and So Is Paris: The Lucia Joyce Cabaret), Helen Back and the Str8 Razors (Jimi Mooney's drag rock extravaganza) and selections from Brat's hilarious cabaret Fringe hit, Naked Cocktail (pictured). The silent auction will include Fringe tickets and other arts-related booty. Admission for the evening, which includes free food (cheap drinks will be available), is 10 bucks, though Brat would be happy to take any other extra cash off your hands.

Bratwürst ’03, Fri., May 23, 8 p.m., $10, The Mummers Museum, Second St. and Washington Ave., 215-413-0975.
