Color Forms

Blue isn't the color that would normally come to mind when you think of Moxie Dance Collective. Yet that's the title of Moxie's upcoming program at the Painted Bride. The local dance collective seems more like zesty yellow, or maybe even chartreuse, a strange little color. In this case, blue can mean pensive; it can mean jazzy. The Moxie five -- Nichole Canuso, Heather Murphy, Peter D'Orsaneo, Lea Yeager and Christy Lee -- are a loose collaboration of friends, dancers and choreographers who've worked in various combinations with virtually every first-rate local experimental dance and theater group.

Here's what's on tap -- so far. These folks are into 'process' and the process won't stop until they take their bows. Lee's creating 'Twilight,' a dance for five men. Usually Lee works with women and she found she 'needed to have a real clear idea of what I was giving them to do since what I create on my own body looks so different when they do it.' Yeager has the nicely ambiguous title 'Between' for her new piece while Peter D'Orsaneo's dance has music by Tin Hat Trio, but no name yet. Murphy's 'This is Moxie' will open the show. Don't expect anything straightforward. Moxie's about juicy moves, playful costumes, really good dancing and ideas that will be working themselves out in front of your eyes. Very red, very hot indeed.

Moxie presents Blue, Thu.-Sat., May 15-17, 8 p.m., $15-$20, Painted Bride Art Center, 230 Vine St., 215-925-9914.
