April 24-30, 2003 musicpicks JUHAPolitics take the stage in JUHA"s super-duper musical, theatrical and spoken-word coup. Palestinian. Gay. Hawaiian. Hip-hop. The very combination of these labels is bound to spark controversy, discussion and maybe a little disbelief. The MCs (Jojoboy, Ghalib El-Khalidi and Adam Capriccio) are the self-described ³Intergalactic Defenders of Peace and Bringers of Funky Music.² They will unleash their theatrical hip-hop show, ³Eleuthrophobia (the fear of freedom),² while expounding on the delicate, ever-present problems in the Middle East. Also on this Self Education Foundation bill: Spoken-word artists Walidah Imarisha and Taina Del Valle and rockers The Reflectors and Ricanstruction, who deliver a loud dose of ³Puerto-punk-rebel-rock-rap.² From colonialism and imperialism to racism, sexism and militarism, Ricanstruc-tion tackles the difficult, rejoices in rebellion and kicks the ill linguistics that should be ruling music right now. That"s power. Fri., April 25, 8 p.m., free, The Rotunda, 4012 Walnut St., 215-386-6081.
